Rawalpindi: The issue of decrease in fares of the public transport vehicles has become a bone of contention between the commuters and the wagon & Suzuki pickup drivers, as both continue to blame each other for not giving regard to rule of law in society.
“The government decreased petroleum prices but despite passage of almost three weeks the transporters have not reduced even one rupee in fares. Whenever the commuters ask drivers and conductors about reduction in fares they start arguing and even sometime force them to get down from the vehicles,” said Tanvir Iqbal, a resident of Sohan.
He said the relevant authorities should come forward and ensure implementation of the announcement of decrease in the fares, adding “It seems that the transporters have no regard for law and they do whatever they want.”
Raja Barkat, a local transporter, said no new fare list has been issued so it is quite wrong on the part of the commuters to force them to take reduced fares.
He said: “If no new fare list has been issued then why should we reduce fares and those who insist for it are just ignorant people. When the relevant authorities will issue new fare list then we will immediately reduce fares.”
